Repose found in the playful innocence of a few friendly seals.
Our self-imposed schedule only allowed for a few minutes to be spent at this lagoon. We had been thwarted by storms for three weeks and were rushing to a dream location in hopes of catching a break in the unpredictable and often violent weather of the arctic. We gave ourselves mere moments to feel the icy water and began trudging back to the vehicle, weary from weeks on the road shooting from sunrise to sunset. Suddenly, one kind face emerged from the placid waters. Then another, and another. Our faces lit up. The schedule ceased to matter in an instant. We spent the next few hours watching seals play in the water until it was too dark to see.
We live with our minds in constant motion, surrounded by revolving doors of opportunity. Moments like this are a reminder to not fixate so heavily on the grandiose that we forget the little moments that matter most. The quiet. The calm. The lull in the roar of our own minds.
