Eros and Thanatos represent the opposing forces of human nature. Eros, the God of Love, represents the life instinct, while Thanatos, the God of Death, represents the death instinct.
Sigmund Freud developed the theory of instincts, or drives, throughout the course of his life and work. He believed that these drives were responsible for much of our behavior.
