This work began as an anime drawing, and with a search for sculptural essence - for the “essence” Brâncuși pursued, and which anime can sometimes reach when it evokes a being with just a few strokes. I wanted to call forth a being that felt familiar, quietly alive, and resolved in its presence.
Beneath it was awe - that we are primates, sharing nearly all of our DNA with chimpanzees and bonobos, and somehow able to glimpse our place in the continuity of life.
Created for Homage Brâncuși, exhibiting at the Teatrul Național Marin Sorescu, Romania (2026), where I was also honored to curate 25 radiant peers.
