Ọ̀GÚNMỌ̀LÁ
The story of Ọ̀gúnmọ̀ is considered a myth or legend in Yoruba culture, and is not generally thought of as a true story.
OGUNMOLA, a young woman who lived in the Yoruba kingdom of Ile-Ife. Though she was not a goddess, Ogunmola was known for her kindness, generosity, and wisdom. One day, the goddess Oshun came to Ogunmola in disguise and asked for food and shelter. Ogunmola, being the kind soul that she was, gave Oshun all she had to offer, despite having little to spare. Oshun was so touched by Ogunmola's generosity that she blessed her with the gift of the Aso Oke.
As Ogunmola received the Aso Oke, the fabric began to glow with a brilliant light. It grew and grew, filling the entire room, and then the entire village. In awe, the people of Ile-Ife watched as Ogunmola was transformed into a powerful goddess, clothed in a beautiful robe of Aso Oke. From that day forward, Ogunmola was known as the goddess of prosperity, wealth, and generosity.
