Tree of Souls

Where does the soul go when it's no longer in the physical body? I imagine a forest of trees made up of these souls. Deep ravines with large barren trees float between cliffs. The trees have thick swirling vines that appear like serpents wrapping the souls together. And songbirds peek through to keep the restless souls content. The soulkeepers with their white dresses and white horses are permanent residents making sure the souls are never lost. In my mind, your soul is never lost, only displaced for awhile.
