1/1 INTERNET by Hans
In 1998, the Internet was for me a seductive, breathtaking woman. It embodied the infinite expanse of the cosmos—full of possibilities and digital-sensual experiences. HTML became the flag of freedom, for now I could stake my claim in the WWW. Web address and homepage turned into my constantly rebuilt home base in the universe of the Internet. Do you remember the computer game Privateer? That's exactly how the Internet appeared to me: An Eldorado of boundless freedom, temptations, and abysses, with GIF neon ads full of promises, teeming with fortune hunters, glitter, and young millionaires. The browser was a maelstrom pulling into an unknown world. And us? We were the pioneers.
