As we stood there before Mesa Arch, watching the sunrise (with countless other photographers and tourists just out of frame), it dawned on me that it was very likely that humans have been making the trek here for centuries, millennia even, to watch this celestial alignment for themselves. It felt like the arch itself was a massive eye, and the sun a golden pupil, and together they were staring all of us down, challenging us to defy their age and wisdom...
