We chased starlight through the night, the sound of our engine drumming across the valley as we fled the storm. We had been tracking the aurora for weeks now. It was still early in the season, but we knew we could capture something special if the conditions turned in our favor. It had been raining for days, opaque clouds clinging to the sky when suddenly there was a spike on the charts. The lights had come. It was 1:00am when we heard about the spike, and we knew our night had only just begun. We packed up as quickly as we could and drove north, hoping to escape the weather that stood as a barrier between us and the cosmos. After many hours of driving, the clouds submitted to our furious passion. The layers of clouds broke apart, the stars gleamed in approval and bands of glorious color swept across the sky. We had driven 300 miles in the middle of the night, and sunrise was soon to come and steal it all away. Nevertheless, that moment was worth every mile.
