On August 4, 2022, I stood alone in this remote area in far southern Arizona, the international border between the U.S. and Mexico only a mile away. Mosquitos swarmed all around and feasted on the surrounding cattle and me. Oddly, I felt as if I was being watched, whether by animal or human, I could not tell. My senses were heightened but I trained my eye on the changing colors of the sky. And in these final few moments of sunlight, this impressive display of billowing mammatus clouds transported me to what seemed like a different dimension.
