During the annual monsoon, when winds shift from a westerly to southerly flow, deep tropical moisture from Mexico rides north into the southwestern United States. I'm grateful to live in southern Arizona where scenes like this light up many nights between July and September. On this evening near Nogales, thunderstorms developed and continued to drop massive lightning bolts with thunder that rattled your teeth. This shot in particular has a clear landing point, where a tree, pole, or some object was struck by the lightning and illuminated a glowing orange at the base. It's nights like these that I live for, and I continue to pursue extraordinary moments that bring me to life.
