On August 15, 2020, a severe-warned storm roared across the high desert near Sonoita, Arizona. Staying in front of this monster but yet so close to the base was the challenge, however I was able to stop at this spot for just enough time to watch this microburst of heavy rain pour over the Mustang Mountains. The mesmerizing cloud structure was something I've rarely seen of this magnitude in the desert and was indicative of how powerful monsoon storms can be.
This rare scene was breathtaking. I remember once again feeling the heat of the summer at my back with temperatures near 100 degrees, and yet the cool outflow from the storm that would eventually drop the overall temperature by 30 degrees in a matter of minutes. Experiencing the extraordinarily powerful moments in an otherwise peaceful desert makes me grateful I'm one of the few who is witness to this event.
