“We had heard that such a place might exist but had almost given up finding it. The maps had been sketchy and the dense vegetation made it difficult to cover ground. Since leaving the obliterated metropolis, my travel companion had recorded 608 new suns until we finally discovered our sanctuary. What was once a busy cyber hub, it had been devoured and camouflaged by the rapidly growing trees and plants. An early band of refugees had taken it over and secured it as a resting place for anyone that made it out of the war-torn cities.”
It was a challenge to merge two contrasting images, with the straight architectural lines with the softness of the vegetation. I was very keen to try and maintain a similar colour range across the whole piece, to try and make it feel like it was located within a forest. Composition was also challenging, as I wanted to lead the viewer down the bridge and into the image, as if they were taking the journey themselves.
